Black Sheep Squadron Racing Stable offers affordable thoroughbred horse racing partnerships giving you an opportunity to enjoy ownership at a fraction of the cost. BSS Racing Stable offers two different types of partnerships. One type will be to purchase a yearling or two year old in training at auction and the other will be to claim. The shares in these partnerships will be available in 1% increments and the cost will be 1% of the purchase price. BSS Racing Stable does not mark up any of our purchases. Owners can purchase up to 10% of any given horse. Owners are also responsible for paying their share of the monthly expenses but again BSS Racing Stable does not mark up any of the expenses. We pass along what gets passed to us from the trainer and vet.

The auction partnerships give the partners an opportunity to get involved in a young horse that has never run before. Depending on the age of the horse when the purchase is made it could take a couple of months to a year, or more, to get them entered in their first race. Although there is typically more upside with a horse purchased at auction there is also more risk involved. In the auction partnerships each partner will have a chance to nominate a name for the horse and there will ultimately be a group vote to decide what the name will be.

The claiming partnerships give the partners an opportunity to get involved with a horse that is already somewhat proven on the race track. In most cases these horses can run 3-4 weeks after they are claimed giving the partners immediate action. In these types of partnerships there is typically less upside but also less risk. While we are always looking to claim horses that have upside and can be moved up in class, while still being competitive, but there is also potential for a quick turnaround in these types of partnerships as the horse could be claimed from us in the first race they run for us. Due to the quick turnover it is possible to own multiple horses and run multiple races over a short period of time.

Thoroughbred racing is a risky business and there are no guarantees of profit, however we feel we have positioned this group with the proper management that gives us the best chance to succeed. Our advice is to invest only what you can afford to lose, expect to have a ton of fun, and hopefully we will have lots of success for years to come!
