The average cost to keep a horse in training is $4000. Costs will be divided among owners each month by the percentage of the horse owned by each owner, and as stated earlier any credits from purse money will be credited toward that months expenses. BSS Racing Stable does not mark up any expenses. We pass along what gets passed to us.
BSS Racing Stable will be using Rudy Rodriguez as the trainer. Rudy is stabled out of New York and runs the majority of his horses at Saratoga, Belmont, and Aqueduct. In some instances there could be a race at another track, typically Monmouth, Parx, or Finger Lakes, that may be a good fit for our horse. If that is the case, we could choose to ship our horse to one of those tracks to race.
BSS Racing Stable prides itself on communication. You will receive bi-weekly updates on your horse and what the plan is moving forward. In the future, BSS Racing Stable will also send out a monthly newsletter to everyone that is part of the partnership. The news letter will include updates on each of the horses, upcoming events, info on future partnerships, and much more.
A healthy thoroughbred can run every 3-4 weeks and as many as 10-15 times in a year.
Input from the partners is desired and encouraged by management. It is very helpful to know what you are thinking so that the right decisions can be made for everyone. Good communication between management and the partners ultimately leads to an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Typically, our trainer will be responsible for making the final racing decisions. They have the best knowledge as to when and where our horses should be running. The managing partners will also have constant contact with the trainers and will have some input in all of the racing decisions.
If you own more than 3% of a thoroughbred you must be a licensed owner. In New York, if you are licensed you have access to the paddock, backstretch and brands, admittance to the clubhouse on racing days, and parking in the owners lot. If you are not licensed you will still be able to access the backstretch, to see your horse, as long as you are accompanied by a licensed owner. Also, whenever a BSS Racing Stable horse wins all BSS Racing Stable partners at the track that day are invited to join us in the winners circle (whether you are an owner in that horse or not) no exceptions. If we are fortunate enough to win a stakes race at Saratoga, and you are a BSS Racing Stable partner in another horse, you are welcome to get your picture taken.
