With an additional 30 years of retail and logistics experience, Chris offers the group a wide array of business knowledge as well. While breeding and selling yearlings was interesting, Chris’ ultimate goal was to start a thoroughbred racing stable and begin racing horses. He first proposed the idea of the partnership to his son Nick, and then to his Men’s League hockey team, the Black Sheep Squadron, and the interest was incredible. BSS Racing Stable was born.
Nick is also an avid thoroughbred enthusiast and handicapper. Nick grew up only a few miles from Saratoga Race Course and attended the races regularly with Chris each summer. Shortly after college, in 2017, he got involved with his first thoroughbred partnership, Pewter Stables, based out of Parx. With the help of Chris, they recommended a few horses for Pewter Stables to claim and they were successful with those claims. In total Nick has owned 10 horses with both Pewter Stables and MJM Stable and has a win percentage of 36%, with 54% in the money, and has run horses at Parx, Gulfstream, Monmouth, Tampa Bay Downs, Gulfstream Park West (the old Calder Race Course), Meadowlands, and Penn National. He is excited to bring what he has learned over the last 4 years, being a partner with both Pewter Stables and MJM Stable, to BSS Racing Stable.

Rudy began his career as a jockey in 1992 and met Chris while riding for one of his cousin's horses. After a difficult 18 years as a jockey where he won 221 races in 3,901 mounts and suffered 2 severe injuries that almost left him paralyzed, Rudy decided that it was time to give up riding. In 2010, he went out on his own and began training. Since then he has eclipsed 6,500 starts, won over 1,300 races, and trains for some of the top owners in the sport. His career win percentage is 19% and he is 51% in the money (1st, 2nd, & 3rd). He is also known throughout NYRA and the racing community as a great hands on trainer. He still continues to ride many of his horses in the mornings. He has been very successful in his relatively short career claiming horses and we feel confident in his abilities to select horses with high potential.
